Email Spam Score Checker
How the Email Spam Score Checker scores a message, how to read the spam filter score and the score out of 100, and how to lower a spam score.
The Email Spam Score Checker runs one email through a real spam filter and the same checklist as the Email Template Checker. The two pages share one engine, so the same email gets the same result on either.
Run A Check
Paste the subject and body as plain text or HTML, or upload an .eml file exported from your mail client.
Optionally add the From name and address, so the sender is checked too.
Press Analyze. Each stage is shown as it finishes: structure, template detection, the checklist, the spam filter and the score.
Read The Two Numbers
- Spam filter score: the points the filter gave the message, against its threshold. Lower is better; at or over the threshold the filter calls it spam. Every rule that added points is listed.
- Score out of 100: higher is better. It starts at 100 and loses points for each failed or warning check. A message at or over the spam threshold cannot grade better than Fair.
Lower A Spam Score
Fix the rule that added the most points first.
Rewrite shouting subjects: capitals, rows of exclamation marks and money symbols.
Replace link shorteners with links to your own domain, and keep links to one or two.
Cut large images and heavy layout; cold email reads best as short paragraphs.
Check the final version again, merge fields included.
What Is Kept
The message is scored in memory and discarded. Only the score, the grade, the time and the visitor's network details are recorded, as for the Email Template Checker.
